Cathepsin A는 serine carboxypeptidase로서, β-galactosidase(b-gal) 및 α-neuraminidase(Neu1)와 고분자 리소좀 복합체를 형성하며, 이들을 리소좀 내 단백질분해로부터 보호합니다.
Cathepsin A 결핍은 b-gal 및 Neu1 결핍을 초래하고, galactosialidosis라는 리소좀 저장 질환을 유발합니다.
Human Cathepsin A 유전자는 chromosome 20q13.12에 위치합니다.
