Background
This gene encodes a member of the tripartite motif-containing protein family, characterized by a RING finger domain, zinc-binding B-box motif, and coiled-coil region. These proteins function as E3 ubiquitin ligases and participate in diverse biological processes. TRIM68 regulates activation of nuclear receptors such as the androgen receptor and is implicated in prostate cancer development, with expression increasing in response to microRNA downregulation. Additionally, it acts as a negative regulator of interferon-beta in viral defense. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
