Background
This gene encodes the beta-2-adrenergic receptor, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. It forms a receptor-channel complex with the class C L-type calcium channel Ca(V)1.2, a G protein, adenylyl cyclase, cAMP-dependent kinase, and phosphatase PP2A. This assembly ensures specific and rapid signaling. The gene is intronless, and its polymorphisms or downregulation are associated with nocturnal asthma, obesity, and type 2 diabetes.
