Target Information
KMT2A is a histone methyltransferase essential for early development and hematopoiesis. It serves as the catalytic subunit of the MLL1/MLL complex, which mediates methylation of Lys-4 on histone H3 (H3K4me) and acetylation of Lys-16 on histone H4 (H4K16ac). Within the MLL1/MLL complex, KMT2A specifically mediates H3K4me, an epigenetic mark for transcriptional activation. It exhibits weak methyltransferase activity alone and requires other complex components for full activity. KMT2A is involved in transcriptional activation of HOXA9 and promotes PPP1R15A-induced apoptosis.
