Target Information
KMT2A is a histone methyltransferase essential for early development and hematopoiesis. It acts as the catalytic subunit of the MLL1/MLL complex, mediating methylation of Lys-4 on histone H3 (H3K4me) and acetylation of Lys-16 on histone H4 (H4K16ac). Within the complex, KMT2A specifically catalyzes H3K4me, marking chromatin for epigenetic transcriptional activation. It exhibits weak methyltransferase activity alone and requires other complex components for full activity. KMT2A is required for transcriptional activation of HOXA9 and promotes PPP1R15A-induced apoptosis.
