Target Information
MettL7B belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily and is a probable methyltransferase. Methyltransferases transfer a methyl group from a donor to an acceptor, often occurring on nucleic bases in DNA or amino acids in protein structures.
DNA methylation is used to regulate gene expression without altering the DNA sequence and is essential for normal mammalian development.
Abnormal methylation patterns are associated with tumorigenesis and metastasis through silencing of tumor suppressor genes.
