Target Information
Adducins are a family of cytoskeletal proteins encoded by three genes (alpha, beta, gamma). Adducin forms heterodimeric complexes of related subunits produced from distinct genes with similar structures. Alpha- and beta-adducin possess a protease-resistant N-terminal region and a protease-sensitive, hydrophilic C-terminal region.
Alpha- and gamma-adducins are ubiquitously expressed, while beta-adducin is highly expressed in brain and hematopoietic tissues. Adducin binds strongly to Ca(2+)/calmodulin and acts as a substrate for protein kinases A and C.
Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms, though not all variants have been fully characterized.
