Product Specific Information
This antibody binds CD33, a 67 kD glycoprotein expressed on monocytes, hematopoietic progenitors, early myeloid progenitor cells, and myeloid leukemias (acute and chronic). It is not expressed on mature myeloid cells, normal stem cells, other hematopoietic cells, or non-hematopoietic human tissues.
Target Information
CD33 is a transmembrane protein in the sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin (Siglec) family. It contains immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs) that recruit SHP-1 and SHP-2 phosphatases, mediating inhibitory signaling and ubiquitin-dependent receptor removal. CD33 is expressed on myelomonocytic lineage cells and binds sialic acid residues on cell surfaces. It serves as a therapeutic target for acute myeloid leukemia and as a marker for monocytes and myelogenous leukemia cells. It is found on granulocyte and macrophage precursors in bone marrow but not on pluripotent stem cells.
Diseases associated with CD33 dysfunction include gallbladder lymphoma and extracutaneous mastocytoma.
