Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a virus responsible for illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The Spike Protein consists of S1 and S2 domains and serves as the main surface antigen of the virus. The glycosylated Spike and nucleocapsid proteins can be detected in infected cell culture supernatants using antisera from SARS patients.
The S1 domain contains a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that specifically binds to the ACE2 receptor on target cells. Variations in the Spike protein contribute to CoV diversity, influencing receptor interactions and virus-cell membrane fusion mechanisms.
