Target Information

Component of the Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1 complex, required to maintain transcriptionally repressive states of many genes, including Hox genes, during development.
Acts via chromatin remodeling and histone modification; mediates monoubiquitination of histone H2A (Lys-119), leading to heritable changes in chromatin expressibility.
Within the PRC1 complex, BMI-1 stimulates the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity of RNF2/RING2.
