Prolactin (PRL) is a pituitary hormone involved in milk production, salt and water regulation, growth, development, and reproduction.
PRL acts through a transmembrane PRL receptor (PRLR), a cytokine receptor family member, with molecular sizes varying from ~40 kDa to 100 kDa depending on tissue and species.
PRLR consists of:

• Extracellular region (contains prolactin binding site, 5 cysteines)
• Single transmembrane domain
• Cytoplasmic region (influences ligand binding and cellular function)
