Target Information
Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type 1 glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 40–43 kDa. It is expressed in various tumors and normal cells, particularly in lymphatic epithelial cells and follicular dendritic cells. Podoplanin localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue and thymic epithelial cells.
As a regulator of the lymphatic endothelium, podoplanin contributes to maintaining podocyte morphology and serves as a ligand for CLEC-2. Its expression correlates with tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential. Podoplanin is involved in cell migration, metastasis formation, and tumor cell invasion. It is also induced via Src activation of Cas and has been detected on Th17 cells and a small subset of CD4+ PBMCs. Dysfunction of podoplanin is associated with diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottic neoplasm, and it has been proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological role.
