Target Information
NeuroD1 is a transcriptional activator functioning as a differentiation factor during neurogenesis.
It binds to the insulin gene E-box, requiring dimerization with another bHLH protein for efficient DNA binding.
Defects in NEUROD1 are associated with maturity onset diabetes of the young type VI (MODY6), a non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus characterized by autosomal dominant inheritance and impaired insulin secretion.
