Collagen IV는 기저막(basement membrane)의 주요 구성 단백질로, 신장, 폐, 피부 등 다양한 조직에서 구조적 지지와 안정성을 제공합니다. 세 개의 알파 사슬(COL4A1, COL4A2, COL4A3 유전자에 의해 암호화됨)로 구성되어 있으며, 이들 유전자의 변이는 Alport 증후군 및 Goodpasture 증후군과 같은 질환과 연관됩니다.
