Target Information
LATS2 (Large Tumor Suppressor Kinase 2) is a serine/threonine protein kinase belonging to the LATS tumor suppressor family.
It interacts with a negative regulator of p53 and functions in a positive feedback loop with p53 responding to cytoskeleton damage, leading to centrosome and mitotic apparatus regulation.
Biological Roles:
- Maintains mitotic fidelity and genomic integrity
- Regulates organ size and tumor suppression by restricting proliferation and promoting apoptosis
- Functions in a kinase cascade with STK3/MST2 and STK4/MST1 that phosphorylates and activates LATS1/2
- Phosphorylates and inactivates YAP1 and WWTR1/TAZ, inhibiting nuclear translocation and regulating genes involved in proliferation, apoptosis, and migration
- Negatively regulates G1/S transition by down-regulating cyclin E/CDK2 kinase activity
