Target Information
Adrenomedullin (ADM) is a vasodilator produced by most contractile cells and is characterized by persistent hypotensive activity. ADM plays a role in regulating fluid and electrolyte homeostasis and maintaining cardiovascular function. In hypertensive patients, plasma ADM levels are upregulated. ADM exhibits strong natriuretic actions, increasing glomerular filtration rate and decreasing distal tubular sodium reabsorption. It is present both in the periphery and brain, where it can exert central effects such as reducing food intake.
