Target Information
This gene belongs to the Ras oncogene family, whose members are related to the transforming genes of mammalian sarcoma retroviruses. The encoded proteins function in signal transduction pathways and can bind GTP and GDP, possessing intrinsic GTPase activity. These proteins undergo cycles of de- and re-palmitoylation, regulating exchange between the plasma membrane and Golgi apparatus. Mutations in this gene cause Costello syndrome and are implicated in various cancers such as bladder cancer, follicular thyroid cancer, and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
