Target Information
ESRRB (steroid hormone receptor ERR2) plays a key role in maintaining self-renewal and pluripotency of embryonic and trophoblast stem cells through signaling pathways such as FGF and Wnt. Upon FGF pathway activation, ESRRB interacts with KDM1A, binding directly to enhancer sites of ELF5 and EOMES to activate transcription, promoting trophoblast stem cell self-renewal. ESRRB also regulates expression of multiple rod-specific genes and is essential for their survival. Mutations in this gene can cause autosomal recessive deafness (DFNB35).
