Apolipoprotein C-III (apo-CIII)는 인간의 APOC3 유전자에 의해 발현되는 단백질로, 매우 낮은 밀도의 지단백(VLDL)의 구성 성분입니다. APOC3는 lipoprotein lipase와 hepatic lipase를 억제하여 중성지방이 풍부한 입자의 대사를 지연시키는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
APOA1, APOC3, APOA4 유전자는 인체 및 설치류 게놈에서 밀접하게 연결되어 있으며, A-I과 A-IV 유전자는 동일 가닥에서, A-1과 C-III 유전자는 반대 방향으로 전사됩니다. ApoC-III 수준의 증가는 고중성지방혈증의 발병을 유도할 수 있습니다.
