Target Information
The TNFSF15 gene encodes a cytokine belonging to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family. It is abundantly expressed in endothelial cells but not in B or T cells. Expression is inducible by TNF and IL-1 alpha. This cytokine binds to receptors TNFRSF25 and TNFRSF21/DR6, activates NF-kappaB and MAP kinases, and induces apoptosis in endothelial cells. It can inhibit endothelial cell proliferation, functioning as an angiogenesis inhibitor. An additional isoform from an alternatively spliced transcript variant has been reported.
