Lymphocyte binding to vascular endothelium is essential for immune cell migration from the bloodstream into lymphoid tissues and sites of inflammation. Under inflammatory conditions, expression of VAP-1 (vascular adhesion protein-1), an endothelial sialoglycoprotein, is induced.
VAP-1 is a type II transmembrane protein (~84.6 kDa) with a single transmembrane domain and N- and O-glycosylation sites in the extracellular domain. In vivo, it predominantly exists as a 180 kDa homodimer and functions both as an enzyme (monoamine oxidase) and as an adhesion molecule for lymphocytes.

Applications Tested: ELISA, Western Blotting.

Target Information

Copper amine oxidases catalyze the oxidative conversion of amines to aldehydes in the presence of copper and a quinone cofactor. The product is a major protein on the adipocyte plasma membrane with adhesive properties and monoamine oxidase activity. A pseudogene for this gene is located approximately 9 kb downstream.
