Target Information
This gene belongs to the MAGEA gene family, which encodes proteins sharing 50–80% sequence identity. Variability in promoters and first exons allows differential transcriptional regulation of similar functions. MAGEA genes are clustered at chromosomal location Xq28 and have been implicated in hereditary disorders such as dyskeratosis congenita.
This particular MAGEA gene encodes a C-terminally truncated protein compared to other family members and may be alternatively interpreted as a pseudogene. Read-through transcription exists between this gene and the upstream MAGEA10 gene.
