Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons, composed mainly of NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H. NF-H plays a crucial role in maintaining neuronal caliber and is involved in mature axon function. Expression of these proteins is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. NF-H has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
