Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons and are composed mainly of NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H. These proteins are essential for maintaining neuronal caliber. NF-H plays a crucial role in mature axons and is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Expression of neuronal intermediate filament proteins is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated.
