Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons and are composed predominantly of three major proteins: NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H. These proteins are tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. NF-H plays a crucial role in maintaining neuronal caliber and is involved in mature axon structure, with relevance to neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
