Poly(A)-binding proteins (PABPs) bind to the poly(A) tail present at the 3′ ends of most eukaryotic mRNAs.
PABPC4 (also known as IPABP) is an activation-induced T-cell mRNA encoding a protein whose expression increases approximately 5-fold upon T-cell activation.
It contains four RNA-binding domains and a proline-rich C terminus, and is primarily localized to the cytoplasm.
PABPC4 may regulate the stability of labile mRNA species in activated T cells and is also known as APP1, expressed on thrombin-activated rabbit platelets.
It may be involved in protein translation regulation in platelets and megakaryocytes or in the binding/stabilization of polyadenylates in platelet dense granules.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
