Target Information
NR4A1 is a member of the steroid-thyroid hormone-retinoid receptor superfamily. NGFI-B-alpha is expressed in multiple tissues including brain, adrenal, thyroid, liver, testis, ovary, thymus, muscle, lung, and prostate. Its expression is induced in response to various stress stimuli and growth factors. The encoded protein acts as a nuclear transcription factor involved in apoptotic signaling in thymocytes and tumor cells, and plays a role in hypothalamic-pituitary axis signaling. Translocation from nucleus to mitochondria induces apoptosis. Three transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been identified; variant 3 (TRC beta) produces isoform b with a distinct C-terminus. RXR has been shown to be a partner for NR4A1.
