Target Information
N-Acylphosphatidylethanolamine (NAPE)-hydrolyzing phospholipase D (NAPE-PLD) is a membrane-bound enzyme responsible for releasing the endocannabinoid anandamide and other bioactive N-acylethanolamines (NAEs) from their corresponding NAPEs in animal tissues.
It is expressed by specific neuronal populations and targeted to axonal processes. NAEs generated by NAPE-PLD may act as anterograde synaptic signaling molecules regulating postsynaptic neuron activity.
NAPE-PLD also catalyzes the hydrolysis of NAPE to generate OEA (oleoylethanolamide), a lipid amide that suppresses food intake in rodents.
