Target Information

ATF5 is a protein coding gene. It acts as a transcription factor that can stimulate or repress gene transcription through binding to various DNA regulatory elements such as:

  • cAMP response element (CRE)
  • ATF5-specific response element (ARE)
  • Amino acid response element (AARE)

ATF5 is critically involved in cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation, often in a cell-type-dependent manner. It plays an important role in:

  • Cerebral cortex formation and neuroprogenitor cell regulation
  • Cerebellar granule neuron progenitor cell proliferation
  • Survival of mature olfactory sensory neurons
  • Osteogenic differentiation
  • Regulation of BCL2 and EGR1 expression for anti-apoptotic function
  • Cooperation with NR1I3/CAR in CYP2B6 transcriptional activation in liver
  • Negative regulation of IL1B signaling pathway
  • Promotion of adipocyte differentiation via CEBPB activation
  • Regulation of centrosome dynamics and centriole interactions
