Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death.
This protein promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their death repressor activity.
Its proapoptotic function is controlled by phosphorylation, regulated by kinases AKT, MAP kinase, and phosphatase calcineurin.
Alternative splicing of this gene yields two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
