Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T helper cells but also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
At the tissue level, CD4 is expressed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut.
CD4 plays a key role in T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase.
It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
