Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits of myosin phosphatase. This enzyme regulates the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of the guanosine triphosphatase Rho. Active RhoA (GTP-RhoA) interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS) of myosin phosphatase, influencing myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation and muscle contraction. Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP-RhoA, phosphorylates MBS, inactivating myosin phosphatase. Overexpression of RhoA or activated RhoA increases phosphorylation of MBS and MLC, indicating that Rho inhibits myosin phosphatase via Rho-kinase. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
