Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a regulatory component of myosin phosphatase. It controls actin–myosin interaction downstream of the small GTPase Rho. Activated RhoA interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS) and modulates myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation, influencing smooth muscle contraction and cytoskeletal dynamics. Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase) phosphorylates MBS, inhibiting myosin phosphatase activity. Overexpression of RhoA or its active form increases MBS and MLC phosphorylation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
