Target Information
Muscarinic cholinergic receptors belong to the G protein-coupled receptor family. The functional diversity of these receptors arises from acetylcholine binding, leading to cellular responses such as adenylate cyclase inhibition, phosphoinositide degradation, and potassium channel mediation. Muscarinic receptors mediate various effects of acetylcholine in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Specifically, muscarinic cholinergic receptor 3 (CHRM3) controls smooth muscle contraction and stimulates glandular secretion.
