Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
The 20S core includes four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha rings and two beta rings).
The 19S regulator consists of a base with ATPase and non-ATPase subunits and a lid with up to 10 non-ATPase subunits.
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides.
PSMD2 encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S regulator lid and may be involved in TNF signaling via interaction with the TNF type 1 receptor.
A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 1.
