Angiogenin (ANG or ANG I)는 신생혈관 형성(neovascularization)과 새로운 혈관 생성 과정에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
ANG은 췌장 ribonuclease A와 유사하며, tRNA 특이적 ribonuclease로 작용하여 세포 내 tRNA를 가수분해함으로써 단백질 합성을 억제합니다.
또한, 내피세포 표면의 actin과 상호작용하여 세포 골격 구조에 변화를 유도할 수 있습니다.
ANG은 고형 종양의 발달에 관여하며, 그 길항제는 종양 성장 억제에 효과적일 수 있습니다.
ANG 유전자 결함은 근위축성 측삭경화증 9형(ALS9)의 감수성과 관련되어 있으며, ALS와 파킨슨병(PD) 간의 유전적 연결고리로 알려져 있습니다.
