Target Information
The CD1C gene encodes a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, structurally related to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins. These proteins form heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin and mediate the presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes on chromosome 1, each differing in localization and lipid ligand specificity. CD1C localizes to late endosomes and lysosomes via a tyrosine-based motif and requires vesicular acidification for lipid antigen binding.
