Target Information
ERN1 (endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 1) is a serine/threonine kinase that acts as a sensor of unfolded proteins in the ER. It transmits the unfolded protein signal from the ER to the nucleus by splicing XBP1 mRNA, converting it into a potent transcriptional activator. ERN1 regulates IRE1 proteolysis and plays a crucial role in extraembryonic cell viability and stress response. Null mutants are viable under normal conditions but not under ER stress.
