Target Information
SP1 is a transcription factor that can activate or repress transcription in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. It binds with high affinity to GC-rich motifs and regulates the expression of many genes involved in cell growth, apoptosis, differentiation, and immune responses.
It is highly regulated by post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation, sumoylation, proteolytic cleavage, glycosylation, and acetylation. SP1 also binds the PDGFR-alpha G-box promoter and may modulate the cellular response to DNA damage. It is implicated in chromatin remodeling and plays a role in the recruitment of SMARCA4/BRG1 on the c-FOS promoter, being essential for FE65 gene regulation.
