Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Spectrins are principal components of a cell’s membrane-cytoskeleton, composed of two alpha and two beta spectrin subunits.
The protein encoded by the SPTBN2 gene is known as spectrin beta non-erythrocytic 2 (beta-III spectrin).
It is distinct from SPTBN1 (beta-II spectrin).
SPTBN2 regulates the glutamate signaling pathway by stabilizing the glutamate transporter EAAT4 at the plasma membrane surface.
Mutations in this gene cause spinocerebellar ataxia type 5 (SCA5), characterized by neurodegeneration, locomotor incoordination, dysarthria, and uncoordinated eye movements.
