Product Specific Information

  • For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Spectrins are principal components of the cell membrane-cytoskeleton, composed of two alpha and two beta spectrin subunits.
The SPTBN2 gene encodes spectrin beta non-erythrocytic 2 (βIII spectrin), distinct from βII spectrin (SPTBN1).
SPTBN2 regulates the glutamate signaling pathway by stabilizing the glutamate transporter EAAT4 on the plasma membrane.
Mutations in SPTBN2 cause spinocerebellar ataxia type 5 (SCA5), characterized by neurodegeneration, progressive locomotor incoordination, dysarthria, and uncoordinated eye movements.
