Product Specific Information
- This antibody does not react with Mouse or Rat.
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
BAX is a member of the Bcl-2 family and plays an important role in regulation of apoptosis.
While Bcl-2 acts as an anti-apoptotic protein, BAX functions as a pro-apoptotic regulator.
Apoptosis regulation involves homo- and heterodimerization of BAX and Bcl-2 isoforms.
The Bax gene encodes isoforms including Bax alpha (21 kDa) and Bax beta (24 kDa).
Both isoforms contain BH1, BH2, and BH3 domains. Bax beta has a unique carboxyl terminus and lacks a hydrophobic transmembrane domain.
Bcl-2 also exists in multiple isoforms, including Bcl-2 alpha (26 kDa) and Bcl-2 beta (22 kDa), differing in their C-terminus and coding regions.
Overexpression of BAX promotes cell death through homodimer and heterodimer formation with other BCL-2 family proteins.
