Target Information

The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells but may also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is detected in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues. CD4 functions in T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase. It may also mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
