Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

Steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) is essential for cholesterol transport from the cytoplasmic outer membrane to the inner mitochondrial membrane.
The 37 kDa precursor is cleaved to produce an active 28 kDa form that facilitates cholesterol metabolism into pregnenolone.
StAR is expressed in the mitochondria of steroid-producing adrenal and gonadal tissues.
Mutations or defects in StAR gene expression are associated with autosomal Lipoid Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (LCAH), resulting in impaired pregnenolone and cortisol synthesis.
The mechanism of cholesterol binding to StAR remains to be fully elucidated.
