Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known regulators of programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic effects. Its activity is regulated through phosphorylation by kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and dephosphorylation by calcineurin. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
