Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known for regulating programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their anti-apoptotic effects. Its activity is regulated by phosphorylation through kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and by phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
