Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a regulatory component of the myosin phosphatase complex.
It modulates the interaction between actin and myosin downstream of the small GTPase Rho.
Active GTP-bound RhoA interacts with MYPT1 to regulate phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC), influencing smooth muscle contraction and cytoskeletal dynamics.
Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase) phosphorylates MYPT1, thereby inhibiting myosin phosphatase activity.
Overexpression or activation of RhoA increases phosphorylation of MBS and MLC.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
