Phenytoin sodium is a commonly used antiepileptic drug.
Phenytoin (fen-i-TOE-in) suppresses abnormal brain activity seen in seizures by stabilizing the inactive state of voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby reducing electrical conductance among brain cells.
It is also used for trigeminal neuralgia treatment when carbamazepine is not suitable.
