Product Specific Information

Western blot analysis of MA1-017-HRP detects an approximately 38 kDa protein in embryonal carcinoma cells.
MA1-017-HRP shows specificity to Nanog and is non-reactive to lysates from non-embryonal cell types (e.g., HeLa cell lysate).


Target Information

NANOG (Nanog homeobox) is a divergent homeodomain protein that regulates pluripotency and differentiation of undifferentiated embryonic stem cells.
NANOG mRNA is present in pluripotent mouse and human cell lines but absent in differentiated cells.

  • Human NANOG shares 52% overall amino acid identity with mouse NANOG, and 85% identity in the homeodomain.
  • Human NANOG gene locus: 12p13.31
    Mouse NANOG gene locus: 6 F2
  • Expression is detected in the inner cell mass of the blastocyst.
  • Overexpression promotes entry into S phase and proliferation.
  • Related diseases: teratocarcinoma, germ cell/embryonal cancer.

NANOG is a key transcription regulator in embryonic stem (ES) cell proliferation and self-renewal.
It plays an important role in the generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells when co-expressed with other transcription factors such as POU5F1 (Oct-4), Sox2, Klf4, Lin28, and c-Myc.
This property makes NANOG a valuable research target in regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy development.
