Target Information
Integrin alpha 4 (also known as CD49d and ITGA4) is part of the integrin alpha chain family. Integrins are heterodimeric membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta chains. The alpha4 chain associates with either beta1 or beta7 chain. Ligand-binding sites for both integrin alpha4β1 and alpha4β7 are located on the alpha4 chain, binding ligands such as MadCAM, VCAM, and fibronectin. MadCAM is the principal ligand for integrin alpha4β7. HIV-1 envelope has been shown to mimic MadCAM by binding to and signaling through integrin alpha4β7, the gut mucosal homing receptor for peripheral T cells.
